Race 1

5 – 2 – 7 – 3

With Kris Lees decision to run Graff in Brisbane instead of here it leaves the race open for THE AUTUMN SUN to make it two wins from two starts. He kicked off his career a month ago in good fashion when attacking the line like I’d attack a Big Mac. Chris Waller has played the patient game giving him time to get over that win albeit he has trialled nicely to keep him up to the mark. If The Autumn Sun can get the job done here he will likely head straight to Brisbane for a group one assignment. Pembroke Castle did plenty of work two starts ago when finishing fourth beaten just under three lengths to The Autumn Sun and has since won at Warwick Farm. Mickey Blue Eyes and Orcein both get blinkers added to their gear which is sure to help them stay in touch and get their chance in the straight.

Race 2

2 – 5 – 7 – 8

VONTAINE is starting to build a reputation with two solid wins to kick start her career the latest being a barnstorming seven length romp when allowed to dictate from the front at the mile. You would normally think it’s a big jump from a provincial race to a Saturday city race but I think she found a lovely 3yo filly’s benchmark race without much depth. From the outside she will likely roll forward and be hard to toss. The only small worry is that she really appreciated the mile last start and now she drops back to 1400m. Oria was solid last start at Canterbury in a midweek race and from gate one will get a nice run. Nipotina found the line well when second to Noble Creed at Newcastle giving her a knockout hope here.

Race 3

2 – 4 – 1 – 3

SASSO CORBARO got a mile back first up at Scone and with that out went her winning chance albeit she kept finding the line. She steps to 1200m here and with only a small field she shouldn’t giveaway a big start which should enable her to charge over them in the run home. Zonk will kick up and be prominent from gate one and is sure to be hard to run down but the last 50m may well seem like a furlong. Savatiano looked in trouble first up at Scone when a well supported favourite but showed good heart when kicking back. This is a step up but that run will have helped her fitness wise and she is sure to get a nice run from a good gate.

Race 4

11 – 1 – 2 – 10

FALERINA looks like a very capable filly with two wins from there start the latest being a really impressive win at Scone over 1100m where she cruised away for a soft win. She comes here nice and fresh off a three month break which should suit with it being the flying 100m and from a good gate. The top weight SHE KNOWS will carry 62.5kg conceding 7.5kg but she is a quality filly who has raced and performed well in far better grade than what she lines up against here. Larlabrook is first up and looks ready to rock ‘n’ roll off a smart barrier trial win three weeks ago.

Race 5

6 – 4 – 5 – 3

Tricky little race but I have settled on BASTIA who should get the right run from barrier one and without much speed engaged in the race he should settle nice and handy and be hard to hold out. I think a repeat of his last start second to Solo Mission should be good enough to have him in the spoils. After All That has the advantage of a pretty handy turn of speed and unless he is forced to give away too big a start he will be there at the business end. The value runner may be Vaucluse Bay who was very good first up and if he hasn’t lost that bit of dash after that run he will make his presence felt.

Race 6

3 – 4 – 1 – 8

Really keen to bet here as I think we can get a result. The favourite LIVE AND FREE is obviously going to be hard to beat going off his last start authority win at Rosehill over 1800m and I assume the stable is hoping to win here then head to Brisbane for the Queensland Derby. The value runners and I think the other two winning chances are Merovee and All Too Huiying. Merovee by champion European galloper Frankel I think was ridden far too aggressive last start behind Live And Free and if ridden a little colder here with the blinkers off he can improve sharply and be right amongst it. The toppy All Too Huiying came off an eight week break and was super when narrowly beaten when running third to Solo Mission and Bastia.

Race 7

6 – 3 – 1 – 7

The favourite OUR CENTURY now with the Kim Waugh stable was outstanding at his second start for the new stable in winning the Lord Mayor’s Cup when stepping from 1400m to 2000m. The step up in trip shouldn’t bother him and he looks a player while the top weight Ecuador is fourth up having run second at all three runs this preparation and with the Waterhouse spit and polish he will be there for a long way. Last Saturday NAVAL WARFARE really impressed me when charging along up front with a big weight over 2000m and coming off a three week freshen up yet he was only collared in the final stride. This is a big step up but he gets Michael Walker to steer and with a light weight might just give these other fancied runners a bit of cheek.

Race 8

8 – 4 – 9 – 1

I am guilty of having had a crush on I THOUGHT SO since he started racing and I still believe he is one day going to prove me right and win a handy race. The 4o gelding is now having his first full preparation since joining the Snowden camp and gee his two recent barrier trials leading into this first up run have been very good. He should camp in behind the speed and hopefully when allowed to run he can go bang. To Excess is trained by the white hot Tracey Bartley who’s stable is low flying and judging by his first up win at Scone in the Ortensia Stakes he will be a big hurdle for I Thought So. To my eye they look the clear two winning chances.

Race 9

4 – 5 – 9 – 3

Nine runners engaged her all clashed last start at Warwick Farm when Schubert was able to beat his tablemate BEACON in close finish with Fierce Impact back in third. You can watch the race a few times and come up for a reason why this horse should have won and why this horse was unlucky or this one got the luck but I m sticking solid with the same quinella but flipping it around. Beacon meets Schubert 1kg better at the weights and has drawn better and I thought Beacon has more improvement to come. Sparky Lad didn’t have much luck and he can easily win here without surprising.
