I’m not going mad when I say I think MENARI was the best 2yo of last season outside of rain affected surfaces. He was impressive on debut before being a tragedy beaten in the group 3 Canonbury Stakes. Unfortunately he then struck heavy tracks in the Todman stakes, the Golden Slipper and the Sires Produce yet he was still good enough to be third over the line in the Golden Slipper. Menari resumes off two very good trials and with a nice firm surface I think we will see the real deal when Josh Parr releases the brakes.
Race 7 No.7 Washington Heights
WASHINGTON HEIGHTS was a handy horse here before he headed to Hong Kong and now that he has come back it was good to see him first up after 14 months that he hadn’t lost any zest for racing. To run down Sir Plush was ultra impressive as he had several lengths to make up but he did with some authority. That was four weeks ago and in between he has had a nice quiet barrier trial coincidentally behind one of his main dangers this afternoon Tom Melbourne. He was never let go in the hit out and to my eye looked full of running. The little query is the 1400m but I think he will handle it and get the cash for us punters.
The query runners are the new additions to the Chris Waller stable Tom Melbourne and Sarrasin.
