CANTERBURY

WEDNESDAY 6 JUNE

TRACK:            Heavy 8 (5.75)                                                RAIL:    +6M

It’s a heavy track and the rain looks like continuing so tread very carefully. Keep an eye on how the track plays and an even closer eye on the betting patterns throughout the afternoon.

BEST BETS:

Race 6             No.10              METAMORPHIC

Race 1

2 – 3 – 1 – 4

I’M A LEGEND only really got going late first up at Warwick Farm when running third so the step from 1300m to 1550m should be ideal. Since that first up run he has trialled nicely to have him up to the mark for today. Nautibernie got a little check early which had her settle last before hitting the line well at Kembla. This is her fourth career run so she should be ready to fire. Monsieur Sisu is another horse that is sure to relish the extra distance following two runs at 1300m. Sporty has been around the mark and is sure to be somewhere in the spoils.

Race 2

7 – 1 – 5 – 6

VOODOO LADY was outstanding first up at Newcastle when a little in need of the run having only had one barrier trial leading in. She never stopped coming to run second and from a good gate here she should find a spot pretty handy and be hard to hold out. Be Mindful is on debut but has trialled nicely twice in preparation for this. From his good gate he has enough natural speed to settle handy and play a major role. Mista Legend did plenty wrong on debut after looking pretty smart at the trials so Les Bridge sent him back to the trials and he trialled very well. He is a leading chance here.

Race 3

6 – 7 – 4 – 2

I have always had a rap on MISTEED and its incredible she is still a maiden as she was most unlucky at her first two career starts. She resumes here off the back of two smart barrier trials and as long as she gets room to move she will be there at the business end. Tell Me caught the eye here first up when settling at the back before hitting the line hard to finish a narrowly beaten third. She’s got a little tricky gate today but with even luck she will figure in the spoils. Home Soil needed the run on debut when third here while Liungberg is first up and has trialled smartly twice one of them on a heavy track so keep safe.

Race 4

6 – 3 – 9 – 1

If the track was a little drier I would have declared WALK THE STREETS but no use whinging as the track is heavy but I am sticking with her. She has raced against some handy opposition and acquitted herself well and with the first up run here a fortnight ago helping her fitness she should be hard to beat this afternoon. Braces returned to the winners circle last start following a long absence and with the liking for wet tracks he must be regarded as a major player again. Mana is another who loves wet tracks and in this grade must be kept safe while Regine can improve on wet ground and with a light weight.

Race 5

2 – 1 – 4 – 7

ZAFINA has been racing consistently an even though well beaten last start she didn’t see a lot of clear room. She hasn’t won here but has run in the placings four from five attempts and can handle the sting out of the track. Villa Carlotta drops back in grade here after finishing behind subsequent Queensland carnival winner Epidemic and from gate one is sure to be in the mix for a long way. Shantou will handle the wet track and only needs to repeat her last start win at Gosford to be a player while Mollyfied will appreciate the easier grade and will strip fitter second up. Dutchesse Moshe has been good at her past two starts and even though coming to town can figure in the spoils.

Race 6

10 – 8  – 2 – 9

METAMORPHIC has really come of age this preparation with two solid runs the latest an outstanding win at Scone when forced to work throughout the run and yet was still able to kick and keep going. He will roll and whether he leads or sits handy he will be hard to get past in the run home. Red Zephyr was solid first up and will strip fitter here and from gate one looms as a major player. Pianissimo was only beaten a lip here two weeks ago first up and he is a winner second up as well as on heavy ground so must be respected.

Race 7

5 – 4 – 8 – 1

BRINGAGEM has been in super form this preparation with two close-up seconds before a dominant win at Gosford last time out. He roils forward and is likely to lead here and prove hard to run down. He is by Sebring so the wet track shouldn’t pose too many worries. Allcash was ok first up over the mile and with that run under his belt he can figure in the grade of race. His stablemate Firebird Flyer isn’t easier to catch but she looks well placed here especially with the rain around as she is a winner on both soft and heavy ground. The toppy Base Camp will carry 61kg but his class will have him in this race for a long way.
