BEST BETS:

Race 1             No.1    CORMAC

Race 4             No.12  TUNERO

Race 1

1 – 2 – 5 – 4

James McDonald is back and I am hoping booting home a winner at his first ride with CORMAC who I think only needs to repeat his last start second at Wyong behind Tunero to be getting the chocolates. My only worry is the drop back to 1400m but if can stalk the speed and get on his bike he should be too good. Dream Genie was very good at her first two runs before failing last start but with Schofield taking over and the blinkers coming off she could easily bounce back. Sporty should get the tag on the leaders back and can figure while Smiling Manolito has the ability but just isn’t finding the line.

Race 2

3 –11 – 1 – 4

PEMBROKE CASTLE went super first up I think in a tougher race when he had to work overtime early to cross and was beaten just under three lengths. That run will have bought him on fitness wise and stepping up to the 1400m and the easier tempo if he is allowed to dictate he will take some catching. Separated never shirked the task on debut when fourth behind Eawase looking as though the extra trip will be right up his alley. The favourite Mickey Blue Eyes charged from the back at Hawkesbury on debut behind the highly regarded Graff suggesting he well above ability. They look the three stand-out winning chances.

Race 3

8 – 3 – 7 – 2

I am sticking here with a couple of the three-year-olds who have more upside or perhaps another way to look at it is they have fewer convictions. DEVIL’S LAIR turned the corner winning two on the trot at Kembla before having little luck at Canterbury last start. I don’t think the extra trip will bother him and as long as he gets the opportunity to build momentum he will be hard to hold out. Almighty Crown is in good form and rock hard fit so expect him to be there at business end. The third of Chris Waller’s 3yo’s Campaign should almost be ready to peak with a couple of runs back from a two month freshen up.

Race 4

12 – 9 – 10 – 3

TUNERO finally broke his maiden status last start albeit narrowly in a moderate mile at Wyong but I have always had an opinion of this gelding and believe he is capable of building a handy career. Two starts back Tunero ran Youngstar to a half length at Hawkesbury and with her winning the group 2 The Roses last Saturday at Doomben is makes the form line look pretty handy. I think he is terrific odds this afternoon as I think with clear galloping room he will take some beating. Desert Lord has created a good opinion with two very good runs and the step up to the mile looks ideal. Laussel is the one who will get the soft run and now being third up she should be ready fire on all cylinders.

Race 5

2 – 8 – 4 – 5

HALLELUJAH BOY from a perfect barrier really only needs to repeat his last start second behind Up ‘N’ Rolling at the stand alone Saturday at Hawkesbury to be hard to hold out. The speed looks genuine and with a soft run and his turn of speed he looks the one to get through. Jaunty returned off a three month break and found the line terrific to run second over the mile so with further fitness he has to be considered a player. Her stablemate Vaucluse Bay is returning off a three month let up and with it being at the mile don’t be surprised if he figures prominently here. Intueri is two from two third up and should be ready for the mile so he must be included as a serious contender.

Race 6

5 – 3 – 7 – 4

MEDOVINA only got the job done in the final few strides last start at Kembla but the win was full of merit and by a horse with plenty of ability. The speed today looks genuine which should allow this daughter of Exceed And Excel the opportunity to wind up and be hard to hold out. I think the value in the race is the Les Bridge prepared mare Queen Misty who is first up where she has won twice previously. In her 21 starts she has only won twice with both being at 1000m yet I think she looks the type of mare best suited to 1200-1400m.

Race 7

3 – 6 – 7 – 13

CHAPELCO battled away well last Wednesday here over 1300m after dropping back a 100m so the quick back up and back to 1400m I think he will take plenty of running down. The better gate today should make things easier in the first furlong to find the front or at worst sitting right on the hammer of Oxford Magic. Last start General Artie finished second to Lead Choreographer and Chapelco finished fourth with both performances full of merit. General Artie should stalk the leading couple and be in the finish while Revolver from gate one is sure to enjoy a perfect run. The drop back from 1500m to 1400m is another added bonus for Revolver who seemed to struggle last start. Kanerupt never stopping coming last start at Canterbury over 1250m and although he 1400m is a query from a good barrier he will get his chance.
