Trainer Will Hayes feels various elements have aligned perfectly for the in-form filly Rohesia to return to the winners’ circle.
The Hanseatic filly has claimed victory in her last two outings at 1400m, most recently in stakes company, prompting the stable to retain her in Adelaide targeting Saturday’s Listed Adelaide Guineas (1600m).
Originally campaigned over shorter distances, Rohesia overcame a solid Class 3 field at Ballarat prior to confirming her $3 market support in the Listed Nitschke Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville Parks on April 18th.
Hayes noted that fitting blinkers, along with how Rohesia has adapted to them, has sparked her improvement over her recent pair of successes.
“We’re going to look at the mile in the Adelaide Guineas,” Hayes said.
“She was so strong through the line the other day, we thought we’d give her the chance to add another stakes victory.
“I think that the defining moment is when we got the blinkers on, she’s very genuine, but they really have improved her.
“So it’s really good that she’s tractable, and she’s relaxed in them and she keeps finding the line, so we’ll definitely get a good guide on her out to the mile.”
By remaining in Adelaide over the last fortnight, Hayes credits Rohesia’s disposition as crucial to unlocking her abilities.
“She’s stayed here with Stuart and Lizzy Gowers and she loves it,” Hayes said.
“She’s very straightforward, Ash Alford who’s travelling our horses has done a great job and says she hasn’t missed a beat since her last win.”
Rohesia features in a field of 16 acceptors for the Adelaide Guineas, having secured gate three with Daniel Stackhouse engaged to partner her, currently quoted at $6 in a market headed by Gold Coast Belle at $2.15.
