BEST BETS:

Race 1             No.7     CHARLAYNE

Race 4             No.7     FLOW

Race 8             No.7     HIGH OPINION

Race 9             No.12   KAONIC**

Race 1

7 – 8 – 5 – 2

CHARLAYNE created a good impression winning well on debut at Canterbury when she looked a little soft. With that run under her belt and improvement she looks capable of taking the step up in grade. Her breeding suggests she will relish the sting out of the track. Problem Solver broke her maiden at the Gold Coast and it wouldn’t surprise new that she goes on with it. Sheikha is first up off a fitness trial and having raced on wet ground previously will stand her in good stead here. From Within has a stack of ability but she does things wrong but if she puts it together she can be in the spoils.

Race 2

1 – 4 – 5 – 2

PERFORMER looks one of the benchmarks in the 2yo ranks having won the Breeders Plate on debut and looked good in two recent barrier trials. He is the one the others have to beat. Exceltic is the spruik horse off the back of three very smart barrier trials. Race experience is Performer’s big advantage but this colt looks to have the X-factor and will pose a big threat.

Race 3

2 – 7 – 1 – 4

FIESTA did a good job at her first campaign running an unlucky third in the Gimcrack followed by second in the Kirkham Plate. She resumes here off two trials and Chris Waller has added the blinkers to make her concentrate. Bold Arial also gets the blinkers and from a perfect barrier she will settle on-pace and if able to produce the turn of foot she has shown previously will be in the spoils. Misteed has had no luck at either start thus far and does have race fitness on her side compared to a few of the fancied runners. Secret Lady will roll forward and give 100% and give the others something to run down. She is a tough filly and if allowed to cruise up front they may not get past her.

Race 4

7 – 2 – 5 – 4

FLOW was let roll and rip last start and we saw the real Street Cry gelding as he raced away for a good win. He will likely stalk King Darci this afternoon and if gets past him he will be hard to run down. Liapari is the one that could jump out of the ground without surprising as he finally get the sting out of the track. Cellarman is in good form and only needs to repeat his latest efforts to be around the mark. Pelethronius loves a wet track and can improve sharply here second up.

Race 5

13 – 14 – 7 – 2

ACQUITTAL is building a handy record and from a good gate should take control of this race and be hard to beat. So It Is will carry a light weight and if she gets the chance to wind up so can come quickly. Mate Story is tough and will likely race handy here and give the others plenty to chase. It’s A Lottery comes through the Moss Trip race and should strip fitter second up here.

Race 6

1 – 9 – 10 – 3

SAMADOUBT looks to fly solo up front and as long as jockey Rachel King can rate him and not let him charge along he will be in front for a long way. The step back in distance I like and should allow him the opportunity of getting there without spending much petrol. Bye See is a handy mare and racing in terrific form and looks to get a lovely spot just in behind the leader and with the big pull in the weights will get her chance to run over him. Travancore will carry no weight and with the sting out of the surface it may just help him stay in contact and be in the finish. Sizzling Bullet can improve sharply second up and with the added bonus of a wet track keep him very safe.

Race 7

8 – 2 – 5 – 3

Only a small field but good quality and a tricky race and there is sure to be many varied opinions. I’ve settled on the 3yo ADDICTIVE NATURE who to my eye looks top class and I have liked both his trials this time back in where he looks to have matured and looked more relaxed in the hit-outs. Trapeze Artist is top drawer as well don’t worry about that and he will be around the mark but what does concern me is whether he wants a little further and the soft track. Global Glamour is all class and won’t be making things easy for the youngsters that for sure. Memes is taking on some quality but she is tough and loves wet ground.

Race 8

7 – 3 – 4 – 2

HIGH OPINION is now rock hard fit following four runs back and looks to get a nice run just tucked in behind the speed. Vaucluse Bay is racing in good form and will forward and make his own luck. Hunter jack will either lead or sit handy and must be respected as a major player. Mortar Platoon is the big improver as he finally gets a track with the sting out of it. Throw him in your exotics. Gamblestown has been going well but the rain around is his big worry.

Race 9

12 – 4 – 7 – 8

As a punter sometimes you break your own rules and although on paper there doesn’t look to be much speed outside Don’t Give A Damn and perhaps Careless I am banking on the class of KAONIC to overcome it and get the job done. I think Kaonic is group class and can find a way to charge over them here and kick start his autumn campaign. Don’t Give A Dam will likely lead and give one hell of a show and is the main and I think only danger to Kaonic.
