Rotating Soul steps up in distance for final three-year-old city chance

Staying-bred filly Rotating Soul will line up in Saturday’s MRC Chairman’s Club Handicap (2400m), chasing a final city win before she turns four.

Trained by Ken and Kasey Keys, the daughter of Soul Patch and Carousel Queen has rarely raced below 1800m across her 10-start career.

Soul Patch ran third in the Victoria Derby, while Carousel Queen is a half-sister to Like A Carousel, winner of the Pakenham Cup (2500m) and a contender in the Adelaide Cup and Sydney Cup.

“Right from the outset Rotating Soul had shown she wanted ground,” Kasey Keys said.

After contesting the SA Fillies Classic (2500m) in May, where she was unsuited by a slow getaway, the filly has since found form.

She finished runner-up at Sale and Pakenham before breaking through last start on the synthetic.

“I think it was well deserved,” Keys said.

“She’s related to Like A Carousel and it took him something like 15 starts to break his maiden, so she’s not doing too badly.”

Keys hopes a clean jump will allow the big-striding filly to find her rhythm near the speed.
