Sydney trainer Michael Freedman has sent Satin Summer south to Victoria with the intention of targeting the upcoming sprint races for three-year-old fillies.

Satin Summer is set to commence Freedman’s strategy at Caulfield this Saturday in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes over 1100 metres.

Freedman indicated that sprinting fillies are better accommodated in Melbourne, with the exception of the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Randwick next Saturday and the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at the same track two weeks after that.

“There’s not a lot here (in Sydney),” Freedman stated.

“You’ve got the Silver Shadow and the Furious, and after that there is nothing.

“You go down there (to Melbourne) and basically every second week there is a fillies sprint race.”

Satin Summer has only competed on three occasions, achieving a maiden win at Randwick in January before stepping straight into Stakes company. She finished fifth in the Listed Lonhro Plate at Randwick on January 7.

The filly was absent from the racetrack until finishing third at Rosehill over 1100m on July 4.

Satin Summer has since participated in a trial at Warwick Farm on August 4, following Freedman’s decision to withdraw the filly from previous engagements.

“She’s had one run back and we’ve scratched off a couple of wide gates the last two times she was in,” Freedman commented.

“She trialled at Warwick Farm with the blinkers on and went great and she’ll wear them in the Quezette, plus we’ve got Jamie Melham to ride her.”

Satin Summer has drawn barrier one for Saturday’s race.

When questioned about Satin Summer remaining in Melbourne after Saturday’s event, Freedman responded, “Possibly, if that’s the way it pans out.”
