Trainer Brad Widdup is confident track conditions won’t hinder Savvy Hallie as she lines up in the second leg of the Princess Series at Randwick.
The filly has returned in top order, backing up a dominant Newcastle win with a brave victory in the Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) on heavy ground just nine days later.
“It was a pretty good effort to do that and in a short period. You can’t do that with a normal horse,” Widdup said.
While Savvy Hallie relishes softer going, the trainer noted she has placed twice from three runs on good tracks. “I think she does like a bit of the sting out of the ground but… they were in nice races,” he said.
Saturday’s Furious Stakes (1200m) has drawn a deep field, including Silver Shadow runner-up Within The Law, who faces a wide barrier. Savvy Hallie has fared better, landing gate five for the $300,000 contest.
