Sensical makes her return at Caulfield

The Peter Moody stable is keen to get a win for Sensical who makes her return at Caulfield.

The daughter of Zoustar had three starts during an autumn campaign that resulted in the filly collecting Black Type through her debut placing in the filly’s division of the Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Sandown in January.

After a late autumn spell, Sensical is ready to resume at Caulfield on Saturday in the Take It To The Neds Level Handicap (1100m).

Following her debut run at Sandown, the Moody stable took Sensical back to Sandown for the the Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) in which she finished fourth before going on to tackle the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m).

Sensical finished less than four lengths from the winner Little Brose in that contest and was immediately turned out for a break.

Being sent to the paddock early resulted in the filly returning to the Moody stable earlier than those two-year-olds that raced on into the autumn and assistant-trainer Katherine Coleman said Sensical was ready for her return run.

“We threw in the deep end at her first campaign in some pretty hot races,” Coleman said.

“She went out for her spell quite early so naturally she was going to be up and going around this time anyway, but she has come back bigger and stronger, and her jump-outs have been really nice.

“She goes to that race on Saturday in good order and we’re hoping that she can get that maiden win under the belt pretty quickly.”

Coleman said spring aspirations for Sensical were on the cards, but first the stable wants to see how she performs.

“There is nothing too crazy at this stage,” Coleman said.

“We want to take it run by run at this stage, but if she lives up to what we think she’s capable of, then she could be competitive in some of those better three-year-old filly’s races.

“She could have a couple of runs and then a little freshen up, but if we can get a win out of her now, that would be great.”
