There has been plenty of wet weather around Brisbane town on Friday, which will definitely have an impact on the track rating for Saturday. I’m anticipating the track will be in the soft range at best for Saturday.

Race 1

Big wraps are normally saved for Christmas presents, but its Christmas in July here with 5 RANCHO MONTOYA.  There’s talk of Caulfield Guineas after his win against the open age maidens at Ipswich last start. While he showed a nice turn of acceleration that day, he put a way a very ordinary bunch of maiden horses and ran slower time than theBM58 on the day. All that said he looks promising, but there is no way I could entertain the $1.85 on offer.  I’m happy to be on 2 ILOVEVEGAS at the Each Way price in this. He was impressive winning first up, really hitting the line well and the numbers support the look of the run.  He paraded like a horse that will relish the step up in trip here.

Race 2

One of these Class 3 low prize money Saturday races, which is difficult to dissect.  11 BONSHO ticks a few boxes that suggest she will run a race here.  Draws a good gate, will race handy to the speed and is un-beaten on rain affected going.  I think she is a safe play at the Each Way.  2 SONG ONE has been good in 2 runs since moving to QLD, now with Ben Currie. He won well first up on a wet track, before running second to MARKSFIELD (A Saturday Metro winner) last time out.  9 KINGS LEGEND savaged the line last time, on a track that wasn’t easy to make ground. Has a tricky gate here but with any luck can certainly win this.  6 EXCEED BATTLE led and smashed her rivals on a heavy track last time out, a repeat of that would see her in the money here.

Race 3

5 DARKTOWN STRUTTER comes up short here, after 2 impressive wins this preparation.  She looks to step up in class here, but she looks promising and is up to the task. 2 SHE’S OUR STAR led and was no match for the winner, when well in the market last time. She will lead or box seat here, and is again a chance to finish in the money.  12 PRINCESS SNOWY revved up late when getting the money over 800m on a wet Ipswich track. With a soft run off the speed can run into the placing’s.  4 WONDER BOOM is in winning form and looks to handle the soft tracks.

Race 4

The Chris Waller team has set up camp in QLD, and 1 LOVING HOME may well be the first winner of the Waller dominance in the QLD off season staying ranks.  Gets top weight and the outside gate, so will need a bit to go its way., but in spite of those things I think its better than the locals. 4 GET ON THE GRANGE is another NSW visitor who will either win or run second to his fellow New South Welshman.

Race 5

Looks to be enough speed engaged to give 7 WILLIAM WALLACE, his chance to steam home over the top of them here.  He was hitting the line strong in the Glasshouse Hcp last week, and drops in class for this assignment.  3 DOUBLE IMPACT & 4 SHEISWHATSHEIS should ensure a strong tempo, but with the right runs can still figure in the minor money.  2 Mr EPIC should be fitter and ready to perform at his peak third up here.

Race 6

I’m really keen on 1 IRISH CONSTABULARLY in this. From the inside gate he can settle a pair closer to the sped than his couple, and will definitely handle the soft track. With his main rivals having to overcome tricky gates, “Irish” should be afforded the gun run and get home.

Race 7

11 BACKSLAPPER gets a big Each Way push from me here.  He has come back well this preparation, and is one that I think has come up over the odds.  Again maps well from the inside draw, is likely to tuck in behind the speed and can be produced at the top of the lane and get every chance. Handles the wet, with the stable and jockey in good form together also a plus here.  5 CORNROW & 4 BETTER LAND are consistent performers, but may have run into another one a little better again here.

Race 8

Very competitive Class 6 Fillies and Mares race with host of chances. Settled on 5 CRUISING SPEED here, and happy to play her the safe way with a 1 x 2 Each Way bet. She has drawn better than her main rivals, and can either lead or box seat from the good gate. There is a host of chances that will need from the gates, namely 4 NOTONYOURLIFE & 12 MADAME DE BAN. 9 ABOHAR goes in for second now that the track is soft, and is a leading hope.

Race 9

5 RAJA AMPAT goes on top here, although he gets back and runs on, he looks to get the right pace shape to win here. Looks to be plenty of speed with 1 I’M A RIPPA looking to rip across from wide out. He has been a model of consistency this prep and deserves another win. 3 EAT MY TRUST, 7 KUBIS & 6 DENBERN can figure with luck in running.
