Race 1
Competitive race to kick off the card, with a numbers of winning hopes. Not a lot between them, but thought 5 RED SCARLETT was the one over the odds. He hasn’t been far away in recent runs, and looks to be dropping slightly in grade, which should see him competitive here. He just needs a touch of luck early, to be able to slot into the running and can be running on into the money.

6 DARKTOWN STRUTTER looks to be simply to fast for these, but the price is very prohibitive. 1 I AM THE GENERAL looks a quinella hope. He was good in winning at his first start for the inform Michael Nolan camp, and the stable is expecting a good run again.

Race 3
1 ALLEVIATOR has trialed impressively both times this time in, and looks set to race well. They have certainly found a winnable race to kick off, with most of the exposed form in this race average at best. Certainly pay to watch the market here, if the money comes for this Edmonds trained conveyance, it’ll pay to follow the money trail.

Small but competitive field here, with 6 HOUDININ THE GREAT looking to break through in his third QLD run. He has been hitting the line well in both starts in the sunshine state, the small field suits here, he can settle closer and get home over the top of them late. 3 COURTS STAR should roll to the top, has fitness edge and can give a great sight back in weaker grade here.

Race 5
The maidens do battle here, and I’m zeroing in on the form around the Doomben maiden that PREFERITO won, as I think it will be a better reference than the Northern rivers maiden form. 2 CASH IS BLACK & 9 NEVER IN DOUBT both come through that race, and both chased hard in a race won from on speed. Both should settle closer in the run this time, and both good winning hopes.

Race 6
Disappointing that both maidens are legs of the QD, with another big field doing battle here. 14 SPLITTER is absolutely over due to break her maiden. From the inside gate, with only 55.5kg and in Fillies and Mares grade, if she gets rolled today you’d have to wonder if she would ever win one. 4 FAST SUN is another who has raced well in the past, but just can’t quite get the job done, she should be near the speed here and is a chance again.

Race 7
Looks a two horse race to round out the day, with 1 PRIDE OF DESTINY & 2 SCORCHA the two that look to fight it out. Leaning toward 1 PRIDE OF DESTINY, has the benefit of 1 run back from a spell, and gets a big upgrade to J Lloyd. From gate 4, he should lead or get the gun run just behind the speed and gets every chance to roll the favorite. 2 SCORCHA is short enough here, she has drawn wide and will need to do some work to get across, and she has been tardy away previously. If she has to work hard in the run, she could be susceptible late, and hoping 1 PRIDE OF DESTINY with the fitness edge can out tough her.
