Race 1
Expecting 3 EXCEED BATTLE to be ridden for speed and the likely leader here. Has won twice at the track and distance, and on rain affected going. She looks to get the race run to suit and can upset the favorite 5 MY GIRL HAYLEY, who has come up short at the even money quote. 5 MY GIRL HAYLEY has won 2 from 14, both wins coming first up from a spell. She was first up last time, when arguably on the wrong part of the track when run down by Mishani Sleuth. I think these 2 have it between them, with 2 GREGORY next best.

No less than 6 of these having their first start in a race, with another 3 resuming from a spell, out of 10 runners. 9 WASHINGTON STREET contested a hot speed 2yo old at his only start. Has since spelled and had a nice sneaky trial at Deagon in the heavy shoes, gets blinkers the first time and will improve here. It’s the best of the trialed brigade for me. Market the best guide here, in early fixed odds betting 4 KING RAGNAR has gone $15 into $7 on UBET, with no public trials, makes it hard to bet with any confidence. Off the other ones we’ve seen, 2 CORAL BAY, trialed fair when asked to do a bit of work, drawn awkwardly and I think will appreciate further. 3 CURRUMBIN CRAFT trailed ok, albeit in slow time on the day. The winner of the trail ran second Sunday, this bloke didn’t try as good as the winner but was good enough. 6 SETOGA has trialed ok also in good time. Was a little green in the trial, but did hit the line ok when straightened up. Though he came up a bit short for what he has done. SHOWSCAY showed speed and knocked up at Doomben last start. Did SP $26 beaten 4.8l, but gets tongue-tied first time, watch betting.

Race 3
2200m maidens and I’m having a throw at the stumps at one at a big price. 6 STAR ECHO has come up favorite on the strength of his last start 0.2L 2nd to ASALWAS, is the horse to beat. Second favorite 8 STREET COMIC was a further 1.3L back in third in the same race. The start before, 8 STREET COMIC was 2nd beaten 0.8L at Ipswich to SCANDALS, when it looked to have its chance. Out of that race, I thought 13 SMOOTH PEBBLES wasn’t disgraced, and with the right run in transit, sitting 3rd behind the leader can be in the finish. At the odds and although only second pick, I can entertain her 1 x 2.

Really liked the trial of 1 CORNFORTH. He ran to time and did it easily. Gets the favors from the good gate, looks the one to beat. 6 THE MECHANIC was a beaten $1.45F on the HEAVY9 at Ballina when resuming. Comes back to the races 42 days since that, without a public trial. His trial before his first up run was good and is a good chance in this off the strength of that. I think one of those 2 will win. Both 12 MENA’S CHOICE (242 days) & 4 DENBURG (605 days) both resume here off long breaks, but have trailed ok.

8 MISS ARABELLA really attacked the line when winning well first up. I think she can go right on with it here, in a very skinny field. The danger is 3 IRON CRAFT, who was ok last time, just needs to be ridden a touch quieter early here and can challenge the favorite.

Race 6
Really tough race with a host of chances, but settled on 5 LADY CROMAC who should get an economical trip from the inside gate. The 1400m tempo should enable him to settle closer to the speed and enjoy the run of the race. 1 SNOW FIELDS looks a great chance off his last start close up third, another who maps to get a nice run. 4 DIAMOND METEOR brings Victorian & NSW form, has the ability to be on sped and hard to beat. 6 PILLARA looks a nice staying mare in the making, who can race well fresh.

With the addition of blinkers first time, I’m expecting to see 5 RIVER FIRE be stoked up and leading here. He was good at Toowoomba last time, when ran down late by subsequent Saturday metro place getter BERGERAC. While this gelding is no world beater, he has led and won over this trip previously, and can get a way with this leading here. Hardest to beat is 8 DIA DE REYES trialed well in preparation for this, has been place second twice, from 2 first up runs. I think one of these 2can upset the favorite 7 DREAM MASTER, a last start imp Ballina winner, leading all the way at a short quote. He had all the favors leading that day, and while I think he is a chance, I’m opposing him at the short quote today.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see an improved performance from 7 QUEENOFTHEPIXIES here. Was really no chance the race was run last time out, with the leaders walking early and getting home slick. She will get a better run in transit here, and can be the one sprinting home over the top late. 1 DELIGHTFUL FEELING is yet to miss a place first up, resumes here today. 4 NICCONI LEGGERA & 6 LORD MARMADUKE should be on speed and a chance.
