Rail Position: True

Track Condition: Soft 6

Weather: Showers

Penetrometer: 5.6

Best Bets:

WIN R2 N3 ULMANN

EACH WAY R8 N1 PROMPT RESPONSE

ROUGHIE R4 N7 THE WILDFLOWER

Race 1

2 SAVANNA ARMOUR is a multiple Group 3 winner, who is better suited here than 1050m of the Chief de Beers.  She maps to get a nice run in behind a decent tempo here, and with clear air in the straight she should steam home late. The small query is an overly rain effected track, but if its in the Soft range, I’m happy to bet.  13 MISSILE CODA looks hardest to beat, she should race on speed and handles the conditions.

Numbers: 2 – 13 – 1 – 9

Bet: EACH WAY 2 SAVANNA ARMOUR

Race 2

Looks genuine tempo here with 4 DREAMS APLENTY 5 ECUDOR 14 SHEISWHATSHEIS all looking to push forward to take up their favorite rolls as pacemaker. This should ensure 3 ULLMAN gets his chance to get back in the winners circle.  Like the fact D Lane goes on and looks suited here. A couple at big odds that I think will run well, 6 JUMBO PRINCE & 12 SEARGENT BLAST, who will appreciate a wet track and get home hard off a genuine tempo.

I can entertain a small win bet on both of those at big odds.

Numbers: 3 – 12 – 6 – 14

Bet: WIN 3 ULMANN

Race 3

Group 3 QLD Guineas has brought together a mixture of form lines that are difficult to line up. 1 PEACEFUL STATE has been too classy for his rivals in SA, winning at Listed level twice, after competing at Group 1 level in Sydney and Melbourne. He has a touch of class on his rivals here and looks hardest to beat. 2 ASSIMILATE was an eye catching effort last time out, when motoring home from well back in the Fred Best Classic. He looks likely to get back again here, can the extra distance look suitable, and I’m happy to play him each way here.

Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 7

Bet: EACH WAY  2 ASSIMILATE

Race 4

I think the best roughie of the day comes up here in the form of 7 THE WILDFLOWER. He can only be better for his first run in QLD, when she was trapped wide, and went all the way back to last in the big field. She made good ground from the back, and with any more and heavy track, she comes into calculations. The more it rains, the more I’m happy to put on each way.  5 SEDANZA is the horse to beat, a wet track is the only query for her, as she hasn’t raced on a rain affected surface.

Numbers: 7 – 5 – 1 – 3

Bet: EACH WAY 7 THE WILDFLOWER

Race 5

The GROUP 1 Stradbroke Handicap, the Grand Final of QLD winter Carnival racing. I’m very keen on the chances of 1 IMPENDING, defending his title. He couldn’t have been more impressive in his 3 QLD runs, and looks ready to peak here. I was really taken by the way he found the line last time, he was extremely good the last 200m of the race, and a repeat performance would see him going very close again. The 3 year old filly 16 CHAMPAGNE CUDDLES, looks suited here and is a leading hope. She was good last time in similar grade, drops in weight and gets an economical run in transit. She will be produced at the right time and should be in the finish. 15 PERAST is another 3 year old well in at Handicap conditions and will race on speed and make his own luck, a definite top 3 chance. 14 INVINCIBLE GEM has great wet track form and can figure.

Numbers: 1 – 16 – 15 – 14

Bet: EACH WAY 1 IMPENDING

Race 6

The Group 1 JJ ATKINS for the 2 year olds over a mile, with the early favorite 5 THE AUTUMN SUN. He was impressive winning in Sydney last time out, and he was a month between runs. That run should have topped him off nicely for this and looks hardest to beat. I won’t be diving in at the current price, and while I concede his the one, I’m looking for a bit of value.  I’m keen on the chances of 11 FUNDAMENTALIST at the Each Way price. She has been finding the line extremely well and looks like the 1600m will be right up her alley. She has run good sectionals on a soft track previously, and with natural progression, looks ready to peak here.

Numbers: 11 – 5 – 4 – 1

Bet: EACH WAY 11 FUNDAMENTALIST

Race 7

A ripping Group 1 QLD DERBY, with a number of chances in a tough race. I’m not jumping off 1 DARK DREAM here, as he had legitimate excuses here last time. He cast a plate which in turn pierced his hoof, which would have been difficult for him to produce his best. I like the fact he can put himself right on speed, make his own luck, and loves the rain affected track.  The DK WEIR trained 2 HEAVENLY THOUGHT was benefited from a peach ride from D Lane last time, but importantly he now partners stable mate 11 LUCK FOR ALL. I think he’s the danger, and with any luck from the gate looks hardest to beat.

Numbers: 1 – 11 – 2 – 4

Bet: EACH WAY 1 DARK DREAM

Race 8

I’m not at all put off by the wide gate for 1 PROMPT RESPONSE, who should work across on speed and give a huge sight. B Shinn is a great judge of speed, and he will rate this girl nicely, to ensure she give s a good kick out of the corner. She’s a proven Group 1 performer, handles rain affected ground, and looks over the odds. 5 PEDRENA the horse to beat, she was good winning last time, and her work during the week was “winning work” according to the stable. She will need luck from the gate, can looks a winning hope.

Numbers: 1 – 5 – 9 – 11

Bet: EACH WAY 1 PROMPT RESPONSE
