Cranbourne trainer Julius Sandhu will go against his normal operating style with Sharp Response who is set to run at Caulfield.

A debut winner at Sale on June 9, Sandhu said Sharp Response was 99 per cent likely to contest the Heat 6 of the 2021 2YO Sprint Series (1100m) on Saturday.

He said an extremely wet track, or a bad barrier, would be the only things that would stop Sharp Response from starting in Saturday’s contest.

“I’m very happy with the horse,” Sandhu said.

“At the end of the day his win in my eyes was excellent, the way he conducted himself in the race and I was really proud of the horse.

“He has trained on really well and hence the back-up in two-and-a-half weeks into Caulfield.

“It is not my normal operating rhythm, but when you work with horses, they tell you when they are ready to go and he has given me every indication that he is ready to step up again.”

Rain is forecast in Melbourne during the week and Sandhu said in an ideal world he would like the track to be in the soft five or six range.

Sandhu also said if Sharp response drew wide, he would be saved a week to run at Flemington.

A $70,000 yearling purchase, Sandhu liked Sharp Response on type, although a little small, he was also taken by the gelding’s breeding.

“I liked the family,” Sandhu said.

“He was a flashy type, very strong up-front and he continues to develop in that area which is great.

“You take a chance on these first season sires and the way things are going I think I bought well.

“You are not going to get a Maurice handed to you for under 100K I wouldn’t think.

“If I can get another one, maybe two runs out of him, then I’ll tip him out for spring and let him spend two months in the paddock, let him grow out, and I think he will make a lovely autumn three-year-old.”
