Short turnaround for Irish Playboy

Henry Dwyer is planning a ten-day turnaround for Irish Playboy who ran second at Geelong last Thursday.

Irish Playboy was also nominated for Caulfield on Wednesday Ballarat-based Dwyer has instead chosen to head to Flemington where he will start in The Stud and Stable Staff Awards Handicap (2000m).

“He’s a big heavy horse and I think it will suit him at Flemington over 2000 metres,” Dwyer said.

“At Geelong the race was only over 1700 metres and he carried 63-kilos and didn’t have much luck so he’ll be a sneaky chance at Flemington.”

Entering Irish Playboy in the benchmark 70 event will see the five-year-old gelding not quite as high in the weights as he was in Geelong however Dwyer is still seeing a positive.

“Getting 60-kilos instead of 63 when he’s back in form is a plus,” Dwyer said.

With four wins and as many placings in 16 starts, Irish Playboy will be searching for his first win since February 2021.

When markets were released on Wednesday, Irish Playboy opened at $18 with TAB.
