After competing against international star Asfoora and Sangster Stakes winner Climbing Star, Sir Sway is set to benefit from a drop in class when he lines up at Oakbank for the Easter Carnival.
The Listed Hills Railway Stakes (1100m) on Saturday features a strong field, but without the top contenders, Sir Sway is well-positioned for a big run. The horse’s trainers, Sue and Jason Jaensch, are aiming for their third black-type win together.
Sir Sway recently finished eighth in the Group 3 R N Irwin Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville, three lengths behind Asfoora, who has eyes on Royal Ascot and international races in 2025.
Jason Jaensch said, “We thought we might as well back him up here and then he can go three weeks into The Goodwood.”
Sir Sway is the $2.60 favourite for the race, with Extremely Luck at $5 and Taunting at $5.50. “It is a little bit easier field this time but still tough enough in its own right,” Jaensch added.
Though drawn in barrier 11, Jaensch is not concerned about the draw, saying, “The barrier isn’t really a problem… he’s pulled up fine so why not have a go.” Jake Toeroek, not a regular rider for the Jaensch team, will take the reins following contact from Toeroek’s manager after nominations.
