Sirileo Miss lands important stakes win at Caulfield

Ultra-consistent Sirileo Miss has landed an important stakes victory for her future as a broodmare with a tough win at Caulfield.

Landing her sixth win from 10 starts, Sirileo Miss did it the tough way to hand Linda Meech a double when taking out the Group 3 Ladies’ Day Vase (1600m) on Wednesday.

Sent out favourite, Sirileo Miss defeated Foxy Freda by a head with Harmony Rose the same margin off third.

Sirileo Miss won on debut at Ballarat last November and in her second preparation during the autumn was taken to Adelaide.

She finished third in the Group 3 Auraria Stakes at Morphettville then followed that up with a fifth-place finish in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) in May.

So far this campaign, Sirileo Miss has been kept to shorter trips.

Ben Casanella, stable representative for trainer Symon Wilde, said they did not expect Sirileo Miss to be up outside the leader.

“We thought Harmony Rose would probably take up the lead and slacken off and that happened,” Casanella said.

“But she’s a tough animal and toughed it out. They had a chance to beat her in the straight and couldn’t do it.”

Casanella said the stable had been enjoying a good run of success with Wilde working hard to build up his training facility.

“It’s a wonderful facility on the coast at Warrnambool and the team will get a massive buzz out of this,” Casanella said.

“He’s purchased a lot of untried horses and we’re building a team and competing at Group level.”

Meech said she would be advising the stable to keep Sirileo Miss to shorter trips.

“I’d probably go a mile again with the way she was wanting to get on with it,” Meech said.

“I’ve got a lot of faith in Symon, I’ve ridden a lot of winners and what he says goes.”
