Sixties and Autumn Boy have stamped their Golden Rose credentials after filling the quinella in the Ming Dynasty Quality at Rosehill.
Sixties ($7) showed grit to lead throughout and hold off his stablemate, with Autumn Boy ($2.60 fav) finishing strongly to be beaten only half a length.
Chris Waller’s assistant trainer Charlie Duckworth confirmed both colts are likely to head to the Golden Rose (1400m) in a fortnight.
“He was very tough. He has beaten a very good horse too, so full credit to the horse’s performance and the ride Rachel (King) gave him,” Duckworth said.
Autumn Boy was first-up, conceding 3.5kg to the winner, and Duckworth said he would take improvement from the run. He compared the colt to his sire, The Autumn Sun, who was beaten in the 2018 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) before bouncing back to win the Golden Rose.
Without Peer ($11) fought on bravely after a tough run to finish third, with trainer Ciaron Maher targeting the Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).
