Hot day (about 37 forecast for Melbourne, so much so horses only required track 1 hour prior to race), so mounting yard will be short. Track obviously will firm up – back onto Hillside this week from Lakeside and rail out 4m (from true), expect them running on down middle.

Race 1: 7-9-12-6
Not often you say “a terrific” maiden. But this will be strong form race, in saying that love a Weir maidener coming to town off terrific provincial Donald debut which is the case with PENTHOUSE PLAYBOY – straight to 1800m in town – no problem. Love it. WHISTLER BOWL was excellent on debut at Sale when just nutted but has bad draw. TRENT will win shortly, maybe here rolling forward out from 1400m. MARCHING ON gets C Williams as goes 2nd up 1800m –no problem Mick Kent stable. Good race. But like top tip.
SUGGESTED: Very keen PENTHOUSE PLAYBOY at the odds.
Race 2: 1-6-8-9
Most got a winning hope here but hard to ignore the form line of Our Crown Witness via SHAMAR. Not clear cut though, BLACK AND TAN was good in good race last time. ZOEY LASS was typical Weir, building to a win. PURRHAPS has broken through. But nothing stands out.
SUGGESTED: SHAMAR has the current class form an ok back to 1400m.
Race 3: 2-1-10-13
Looking forward to return of RESET I’M WILD here. There were excuses, only failure in Brisbane and scratched Ballarat Saturday for this. BUGARI has fitness edge on it and no luck last time. VAIN TYCOON broke through well at only 2nd start. OUR LUCA will give good sight on pace.
SUGGESTED: RESET I’M WILD clearly and more so if the money comes.
Race 4: 3-12-6-2
Big query FASTNET CYCLONE to improve on adequate debut run in Australia, better form is over longer but looks promising. Otherwise leaning RANSOM MONEY fit and back from 1600m. SHAUQUIN to get good run and won well last time on pace. DOMESTICATED a clear threat off good return and gets accomplished WA apprentice Kersley’s 3kg claim.
Race 5: 2-8-7-12
Even race, poor old little PRIA ECLIPSE can’t win one but sure to run well but thinking the other formline that brings ANOTHER BULLSEYE and WINKLEMANN in is compelling and a 2.5kg weight leans me to former. I’M A PRINCESS fits in same puzzle.
SUGGESTED: Not much between many here, leaning ANOTHER BULLSEYE.
Race 6: 13-9-11-7
Looks well graded here SO SPLENDID and the one to beat. RED CHOUX’S is typical Weir improving and holding form through campaign. MOSHWAY to get good run from gate off nice winning return. GOLDEN AUTHORITY won like that fresh up at Seymour by 6 lens and backed as if it would. MY PSYCHIATRIST was good resuming and like the claim for UK visiting apprentice Bryan.
SUGGESTED: Looks bet of the day SO SPLENDID
Race 7: 1-8-7-13
Biggest query of the day is CALL ME HANDSOME, ex Hong Kong off long break and creditable placing to enigmatic PAKISTAN STAR looks inviting. So big respect. Tipping out of grade ANGRY GEE with claim and off good trial nonetheless. BELIEVING has good first-up form and CLUB TROPICANA won a weak race well last time.
SUGGESTED: worried CALL ME HANSOME but happy to go ANGRY GEE.
Race 8: 1-6-12
LIFE ON THE WIRE comes in winning form and that’s what the Brunton stable is good at. HECTOPASCAL has the stable Mrs Gardenia form and that’s good enough to be competitive here. FROMPARISWITHLOVE (blinkers) is one of many who are in the mix. Keeping DREAMS OF PARIS safe on Australian debut. CLASSIC DIVA got it wrong at Kyneton and in quaddie.
SUGGESTED: Working on last start winner’s NINA’s BALLERINA ahead of saver on LIFE ON THE WIRE.
