Spicy Margs to kick start her campaign at Ballarat

The Mick Price and Michael Kent stable will attempt to land a nice first-up prize with the speedy Spicy Margs at Ballarat.

The Magic Millions Ballarat 3YO & 4YO Classic (1100m) on Saturday is the race the stable has picked out for Spicy Margs to kick start her campaign.

Spicy Margs won first-up over 1100m at Caulfield in July then finished down the track at Moonee Valley when dropped back to 1000m at Moonee Valley

That performance was on the return to racing a Moonee Valley following a break and renovation and the track favoured those racing on the speed which Spicy Margs was unable to do after leading throughout at Caulfield.

Spicy Margs has won two 800m jump-outs at Cranbourne in preparation for her return, the most recent on heavy ground on November 27.

Price said Spicy Margs will not be hindered by whatever track conditions are post on Saturday.

While the weather has been warm in Victoria early in the week, the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting cooler temperatures on Saturday with between 1-20mm of rain.

“She’s going well, and I think it’s the right race for her,” Price said.

“She goes good fresh. She trains herself a bit. She’s one of those horses with nervous energy about her, but we’ve got her going well.

“We’re not worried about her.”

Spicy Margs is owned by an all-female syndicate who had their first day out at the races on VRC Oaks Day last year.

Price is hoping a large contingent of the ownership group heads to Ballarat on Saturday to cheer Spicy Margs on.

“Hopefully they all dress up and get to Ballarat and enjoy the day,” Price said.
