Stewards announce Ben Currie inquiry dates

Stewards have announced the dates Toowoomba trainer Ben Currie will face a swag of charges levelled against him.

In a media release, the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission said stewards would reconvene a hearing on March 11 into 28 alleged race day breaches involving a raid on Currie’s stables in April last year.

The inquiries into four alleged illegal substance breaches issued in November and December along with seven alleged breaches of the rules of racing issued in February will be heard on March 13.

The way was opened for the inquires after a Supreme Court judicial review last week which ruled on whether Currie could have legal representation at the hearings.

Justice Peter Flanagan ordered stewards to decide whether Currie could have legal representatives as per the correct law.

Currie is currently training on a stay for all charges.

Brisbane Racing Club chairman Neville Bell confirmed a ban on Currie entering Eagle Farm, Doomben or Deagon racecourses remained in place for the time being.
