Thomas Stockdale has delivered the biggest win of his riding career, steering Warnie to victory in The Supernova (1400m) at Pakenham.

The young jockey produced a calm, patient ride aboard the Ciaron Maher-trained galloper to claim the rich slot race on Saturday.

Run by Southside Racing, The Supernova followed last month’s The Meteorite (1200m) at Cranbourne.

Warnie ($11) charged home down the centre of the track to overhaul $2.20 favourite Private Eye, scoring by a half-head with Arkansaw Kid close up in third.

Stockdale said studying Mark Zahra’s previous rides on the gelding shaped his approach.

“Every time Mark sat on his back, he was in a nice flowing rhythm, he was relaxed, conserving energy and he showed an electric turn of foot off it,” Stockdale said.

“I tried to channel my inner Zahra perch, nice hands, get him to relax, and he let rip.”

“It’s the biggest win of my career,” he said.

Warnie’s success completed a four-win haul for the Maher stable, capping a standout day for the team.
