Talented Miss Albania set for return run at Caulfield

If weights and measures can be relied upon, then Miss Albania should be returning a winner at Caulfield.

The Enver Jusufovic-trained daughter of Magnus runs in the MRC Member Garry Franklin Handicap (1100m) on Saturday where she meets La Mexicana who had Miss Albania’s measure the last time they met at Caulfield on January 26.

Only a half-length separated the pair that day, but this time around Miss Albania has an 8kg weight swing in her favour.

“La Mexicana is a class horse and does have a good strike-rate and if you are measuring ability, then she might have more ability,” Jusufovic said.

“But on weights and measures you’d say my horse is going to be hard to beat.”

Miss Albania has raced only the five times, registering three wins and two minor placings, her only campaign, and Jusufovic has the rising five-year-old back in work early in a bid to boost her rating.

Jusufovic believes the mare is up to better company, but concedes she needs to obtain a higher rating to be able to compete in those races.

“I think if you go into those races with a low rating, you’re badly weighted unless you’re a very smart galloper and can reach Group 1 level,” Jusufovic said.

“To go in some of those races you need to be in the high 80’s or 90’s and earn you spot.”

Jusufovic believes Miss Albania has made the right progress this campaign after a difficult campaign.

“Last time it was always a couple of steps forward and one step back, but this prep it’s been smooth sailing,” Jusufovic said.

“She’s had a terrific foundation this time and it’s up to her now.

“I’d like a couple of early runs which will give me an idea of what I can plan for in the future.”
