Tashi claims overdue Group 1 glory in Tattersall’s Tiara

Tashi broke through for a well-earned Group 1 triumph in the Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm, ending a streak of Group placings with a dominant two-length win.

The Peter Snowden-trained mare hadn’t won since a benchmark 88 at Randwick in March but had placed in seven straight blacktype events, including a narrow second to Floozie in the recent Dane Ripper Stakes (1300m).

This time, she turned the tables with authority under Tom Sherry.

As $3.20 betting companies favourite Floozie went early, Tashi ($7.50) tracked perfectly and surged past to win easily, with Abounding ($19) and Olentia ($31) filling the placings.

“She’s been tremendous all prep… She kept putting her hand up every start,” Snowden said.

It was a breakthrough Group 1 win for Sherry at his 20th attempt.

“It’s been a long road… I’m so proud of this mare,” Sherry said.

“Winning a Group One for a lad from Ireland is a very big deal for me.”
