Co-trainers Dan Clarken and Oppy MacGillvray are aiming South Australia’s star stayer, The Map, at the Adelaide Cup, starting with her run in the Listed Premier’s Plate (2000m) at Morphettville this Saturday.

The six-year-old mare kicked off her campaign in the same race last year and is now looking to repeat that success. After finishing 21st in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) in November, jockey Rachel King praised her effort as “as game as ever.” Clarken is hopeful she can build on that performance with the Group 3 Lord Reims Plate (2600m) to follow, leading towards the Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m), where she narrowly missed out in 2024.

Clarken is optimistic: “She’s presented like she’s got through the Melbourne Cup and come back in great order.” The Map, currently a $7.50 chance, will face competition from the favourite, the Robert Hickmott-trained Beltoro ($3.30).

With a successful campaign, the next step could be the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick.
