John Thompson, who won the Woodlands Stakes with Xtremetime in 2021, is confident Vingt Neuf Noir is cut from the same cloth as the promising filly.
Vingt Neuf Noir, French for ‘twenty-nine black,’ will make her return in Saturday’s 1100m Scone feature, a race known for producing future stars like Group 1 winner In Secret and stakes performers such as Flippant, Libertini, and Lazzura.
Thompson sees similarities between Vingt Neuf Noir and Xtremetime, who was tragically injured months after her victory in 2021. Vingt Neuf Noir’s only start saw her finish midfield in the Inglis Nursery (1000m) but Thompson believes the filly has a bright future ahead.
“She’s a very straightforward filly and she has got an exciting future,” Thompson said.
Thompson will also have Clear Proof in the Lion Benchmark 72 Handicap, hopeful the gelding is regaining form after recent setbacks.
