BEST BET:        Race 5             No.9     ROSEITO

NEXT BEST:      Race 3             No.1     DIXIE CHICK

Race 1

(LATE SCRATCHING 3 CAJETAN)

Makes the race very tricky now with the scratching.

New numbers:   2 – 4 – 5 – 1

CAJETAN and Destiny’s Own come through the same race behind the highly talented Unforgotten and I believe are the two clear top picks in front of the favourite. Cajetan should find the front and now being third up be hard to run down. Destiny’s Own from barrier one should be able to sit on Cajetan’s back and then try and run him down. Higher Ground was good winning here last start but he goes up 2.5kg and I think faces a tougher task. Savacool is the blow out coming off a surprise debut win that was very good.

Race 2

7 – 3 – 8 – 10

Think there are two winning chances here that are the favourite PATRINA and Puppet Master the danger. Patrina trialled well when we saw her back in June and looked even stronger and sharper when she let rip two weeks ago at Randwick. She should race handy if not find the top and be hard to get past. Puppet Master is first up but is a handy colt as he showed at his first preparation with three good efforts. His trial at Warwick farm was very good so he is ready to rock’n’roll.

Race 3

1 – 6 – 3 – 7

I was worried when DIXIE CHICK went awful first up she may not want to be a racehorse anymore but she was good last start here when hitting the line solidly for third behind Noire. She has to lump a big weight but a repeat of last run or even an improved effort and she’ll be hard to beat. Sugar Bella is first up for 16 months and has switched to the Kris Lees stable and been readied for this with three solid trials. She is a handy mare as she showed winning her first two starts but it’s not easy winning with such a long layoff. Duchess Pedrille has trialled well leading into tonight race.

Race 4

5 – 1 – 7 – 8

The Queenslander WHYPEEO is the one to beat and run down but I’m not sure I want to dive into the very short odds. He obviously has a high cruising speed and has plenty of ability but Canterbury in Sydney is a different kettle of fish to Ballina, Gold Coast and even Doomben. Samadoubt gets barrier one and does turn up here off two good barrier trials so he should be ready. Boyish is looking for three wins on the trot while Trust me has raced well in the city previously and can bob up.

Race 5

9 – 5 – 6 – 1

ROSEITO looks to be the standout bet of the night at Canterbury. She is a promising mare who has found a city race without much depth and one that she should be able to handle. Her latest effort in a TAB Highway was solid and I think good enough for this. Jaunty was good winning her maiden last start and must be considered but I think she’d appreciate a drop of rain so keep an eye on the radar. Nacho Libre was ok here last start when just on two lengths and if the luck comes from the bad gate he can show up.

Race 6

1 – 2 – 4 – 12

Keen on backing both of Godolphin’s horses at the top of the page MALAISE and BRATISLAVA. Malaise is first up for nine months off the back of two good barrier trials and even with the nig impost of 62kg his class will take him a long way. Bratislava is also first up and has also trialled twice in readiness for this assignment. He has enough early toe to put himself handy which should be an advantage. Serene Miss is the short priced favourite and gets barrier one and looks she is three from three so she will take some beating. The top two are without doubt the toughest opponents she has met in her short career.

Race 7

5 – 10 – 9 – 4

PICK ME UP looks well placed here dropping back from Saturday grade and having drawn a perfect gate to stalk the leaders. It’s been four weeks since he was honest at Rosehill but trainer Tim Martin has trialled him and he did that well within himself. Invincible Quest did a good job winning at Hawkesbury albeit against a moderate field but from a soft draw here he can come with one run late and must be respected. Satirical Magic has found form winning two on the trot and this looks a similar race again so keep safe. There is a good tip around for the Queensland visitor Fiery Heights who turns up here with solid form.

Race 8

13 – 14 – 12 – 2

LIGHTNING NIC had her first go at this trip last start and did a good job hitting the line behind Baysa when she was coming off a 25 day freshen up. From a soft draw she should get an economical run and be thereabouts. She’s Magical comes through the same race and after coping a bit buffering during the race she still fought to the line. The value may well be Tradtri who should find the front early and if allowed any easy sectionals even at 10 years of age he will give a kick.

Quaddie:

1st leg:             9

2nd leg:             1 – 2

3rd leg:             Field

4th leg:             12 – 13 – 14

Cost $30 = 50%
