Race 5             No.4    SPENDING TO WIN

Race 1

1 – 10 – 12 – 9

Good competitive race to kick start the afternoon with several winning chances. I settled on PINDUS but concede he will need luck from the awkward barrier. His debut was very good at Randwick in a quality race and on paper here there looks enough speed to enable him to get back and hit the line. Bold Arial looks a stronger girl this time around and from a good gate is sure to settle on or near speed and play a role. Kara’s Hope was very good at Flemington during the spring and she would only need to have returned in similar vein to be in the spoils.

Race 2

6 – 2 – 4 – 5

RIDICULE’s two career runs have been rock solid and from gate one today she should jump and control the race. A repeat of her latest run will make her hard to beat. Primitivo is first up off a so so trial but her two career starts have solid form behind them so respect. Longmu keeps disappointing me but she gets the blinkers on today so she can improve without surprising.

Race 3

1 – 2 – 3 – 4

SO YOU WIN is dropping back to a 3yo only race after running well against a tougher bunch at Randwick last time out. There looks a solid tempo on paper which should enable him to get a nice trailing spot from a soft barrier. Tangmere looks a highly promising youngster by superstar European galloper Frankel after he did a very good job winning at Canterbury last start off only an even tempo. The extra trip here looks right up his alley. Angel’s Boy is the likely leader and is sure to be hard to run down as he was last start at Newcastle when he kept giving all the way to the line.

Race 4

5 – 1 – 4 – 2

He is short odds but the race looks at the mercy of DANZIE who should cross and lead and be very difficult to run down. First up he looked new but won easily at Warwick Farm before having no luck at Randwick yet he managed to fight on and run a gallant third. Miami Dade caused a boil over last start and looks the obvious danger here having drawn gate one. All But Gone and Hand From Above look the next few for exotic players.

Race 5

4 – 2 – 6 – 5

SPENDING TO WIN doesn’t attack the line with much gusto or heart having won only once from 12 starts albeit he did get over the line first last start but was beaten on protest and correctly so. Only a small field today and on paper good speed and maybe he do it again but keep the race this time. Kennedy was outstanding last start when almost beating Siege Of Quebec when he was able to control things up front. There is more speed today but from gate one he will get his chance.

Race 6

2 – 7 – 1 – 6

Cyrus Rocks is the likely leader and like last start here over the 1900m will be hard to run down especially if allowed to roll at his own leisure.  I’ve settled on tipping FEELIN THE LOVE who I am banking on that the 1900m is something she is looking for. She is in terrific form of late and I think from a soft gate she should stalk the leader and be too good late. Just Shine was strong winning at Newcastle last start and will run the journey right out while Queen Of Heights only needs to run up to any of her last three runs to be amongst the spoils.

Race 7

6 – 1 – 5 – 2

ORIENTAL RUNNER returned off a sixteen month break from racing and is low flying with wins at Moruya and Kembla before a tough effort when narrowly beaten by Alert By Sea at Kembla. He is a speed horse and if allowed to stride he will take some running down. Irithea gets barrier one so it will be interesting whether she kicks up and leads or take the sit but either way she looms as a major player going off her solid first up effort behind Ghostly.

Race 8

3 – 1 – 6 – 9

CONCHITA is fresh off a three month let up with two solid barrier trials to have her ready to fire. Her race form is quality for a race like this and although she has had seven goes at 1100m for nothing I am hoping as she continues to mature she will be able to see the trip out especially from a soft draw. Serene Miss is also off almost a three month layoff and races today at a course and distance where she is two from two. Her most recent barrier trial was very good on the inside Newcastle track. Miss Que was outstanding first up and must be respected while Sexy Eyes has trialled ok and is one from one first up.
