Group 1 Day @ Randwick- Richie’s tips

RANDWICK

SATURDAY 21 APRIL

TRACK:      GOOD 3 (4.87)

RAIL:    +6M 1600m-WP, +4M remainder

We have had a pretty good year on the tip here at Just Racing but I can’t recall a tougher day on paper than today at Randwick. As a punter tread carefully as you work through the day at Randwick.

BEST BET:

Race 3             No.2    DOTHRAKI

Race 1

1 – 4 – 5 – 3

I have nothing between the favourite Ori On Fire and my top selection NIC’S VENDETTA who will ridden by a promising rider in Mikayla Weir who will claim three kilos. Nic’s Vendetta resumed off a seven month break with a very good effort at Newcastle when fourth to Eminent Duke over the flying 900m. The step up to 1200m is ideal and he is a winner of three from four second up albeit in slightly easier races than this. Ori On Fire gets Bowman and blinkers but also the outside gate but he does come here off the back of a nice effort behind Country Championship Final second placegetter and city winner Don’t Give A Damn. Count Cumani and Keymaster are I think the other possible winning hopes.

Race 2

7 – 11 – 2 – 4

There looks good speed on paper yet I am still tipping a horse that will be nice and handy in the Mark Newnham trained ANATOLA who is first up off the back of two strong barrier trials. She has the speed to lead if Josh Parr wishes but she can also sit and dash and from gate three she will you a big sight. In Times Of War attacks the line like a do a salad bar but if she gets the luck from her awkward draw she should figure here. She will roll forward and looks o be right on-pace and give a kick. Handfast steps out for the first time since leaving Godolphin and joining Richard Litt. He really caught the eye in a recent barrier trial and looks wound up to run well fresh.

Race 3

2 – 3 – 8 – 5

The only thing stopping us from unloading on DOTHRAKI is that it is DOTHRAKI who on a few occasions has looked the winner and found a way to get beaten having run second over the line 11 times. He will roll forward and settle around the mark and if all being even he should get the job done. This is it, I am with him and pushing all him and simply banking on the one factor being he is better than them. Burning Passion looks the next pick who finished a length and three quarters behind Dothraki last start and meets him 2kilos worse off. Bolero King has been in career best form this preparation so he can bob up albeit he meets Dothraki 4 kilos worse for finishing behind him last start.

Race 4

3 – 5 – 1 – 4

HOLY SNOW has been flying this preparation which has included a group 2 win and two group placings the latest in the group 3 Carbine Club stakes. His form is rock solid in good races and he is stepping up in trip to 2000m so I believe he still has the dash in his legs. Tangled is coming back from the hard yakka of the Derby 2400m that is never easy but he deserve’s respect. The new kid on the block is Higher Ground who Chris Waller is steering towards a Queensland Derby tilt and from gate one he could win without surprising.

Race 5

4 – 6 – 5 – 7

SO FAR SOKKOL was dominant winning the Bendigo Guineas last start with a brilliant turn of speed. She has drawn to get a perfect run here against I think only a fair field. Moss Trip has been freshened up with a seven week break albeit she has trialled up nicely. From a soft draw she should get an economical run and be able to use her turn of speed. Manicure never stopped coming last start over the 1200m when caught wide. Third up here and up a furlong looks ideal. Problem Solver dead-heated with Manicure last start and is sure have derived fitness from that run as she was fresh off a 50 day break.

Race 6

5 – 3 – 13 – 12

Nine of the 13 runners come through the group while Irukandji won the group 3 T L Baillieu Handicap and Akkadian had no luck in the race.

I have finished with the winner of the Victorian Sires Produce NOT A SINGLE CENT who came to Sydney and things went from bad to worse. From the good barrier he should stalk the leaders and he is sure to relish the seven furlongs. Many had hard luck stori4es in the Sires but none more so than Outrageous who saw daylight very late and dashed through to grab third on the line. You can certainly make a case for many others.

Race 7

10 – 2 – 8 – 1

I think this is one of those races that it’s difficult not to tip TRAPEZE ARTIST after his awesome display in the group 1 T J Smith but I just have a niggling worry that he has to have a come down and at $2.25 I couldn’t dive in. He has won five of his 13 starts but is yet to win two in a row. Brave Smash will appreciate the 1400m so expect a better run while I am not underestimating Tom Melbourne who is a quality animal and could blow these away without surprising.

Race 8

6 – 16 – 1 – 10

INTERLOCUTER lands on top here as I think James Cummings has earmarked this race for a while. The step up to 2000m and with plenty of freshness in his legs should allow him to have a turn of speed and from gate one he should just lob behind the leading bunch. Arbeitsam was obviously very good in the Doncaster and is sure to give the others plenty to chase here. Albeit in the Doncaster he carried 51kg and had a nice time up front there looks pressure here and he has 58kg. I am convinced Nettoyer will win a good race as she has had little luck in many races and although she is far superior on wet ground she can react on a good surface. From a good barrier and only 53kilos plus an aggressive Brenton Avdulla on board she can run well. Cool Chap was very good in the Doncaster if you draw a line through the fav Arbeitsam who he meets 3.5kg better he has to be included amongst the chances.

Race 9

7 – 14 – 9 – 11

OSBORNE BULLS is low flying this preparation and again many punters will be looking to him in the final race of the day to either blast out of trouble or increase their winnings. It was the ride of the day three weeks ago when he won at Rosehill and with a genuine speed on paper here Avdulla will give him his chance to wind up and be strong late. Tribal Wisdom comes through the same race and meets him 2.5kgs better and look he didn’t have the best of luck albeit I think it was slightly better out wide. The soft draw here will give him his chance to get closer or turn the tables. Harper’s Choice has always been a good animal and he resumes here off a nice trial and as a gelding so I am keeping him amongst the winning hopes. Special Missile will roll forward and strips fitter here following two runs back so he is sure to be in front for a while.
