No. 5 Ultimate Edition – Bet Now: $2.90
This is far from the strongest edition of the Geelong Classic and Ultimate Edition is the only horse with any real upside in this field.
He never gave his rivals a chance when he led from start to finish at Bendigo last start and I don’t think that the big step-up in trip will prove to be an issue for him.
I don’t think he will be a Victoria Derby contender, but he is good enough to win this race.
Geelong – Race 7 4:00PM AEST
No. 2 Ashrun – Bet Now: $4.00
This is a stellar edition of the Geelong Cup and you can make a case for a number of different horses in this field.
Ashrun is the European stayer with the most consistent form in this contest.
He finished second in the Prix Kergorlay in France, a race that has been a strong form reference for the Geelong Cup and the Melbourne Cup in the past, and he has been placed at Group 1 level in Germany.
Geelong – Race 8 4:40PM AEST
No. 1 Xilong – Bet Now: $3.40
I am confident that Xilong is a better horse than her first-up effort suggests and she can return to winning form in the Black Pearl Stakes.
She ran out of puff late first-up at Caulfield and I think she should take good improvement from that effort.
There are no stars in this field and on her best form she will prove very tough to beat.
Geelong – Race 9 5:20PM AEST
No. 11 November Dreaming – Bet Now: $4.00
November Dreaming will be better over further, but there is no doubt that her class will take her a long way in this contest.
Her best form does give her a clear class edge over the rest of this field and she has run well fresh in the past.
Craig Williams in the saddle is a big positive and she should have every possible chance to make a winning return to the races.
