Atherton returned to the races with a classy win at Wyong and he was far from disgraced when he finished a tough third last star.

He is a lightly-raced horse that still has the scope to improve and the field that he meets this afternoon isn’t particularly strong.

Brenton Avdulla will settle him right on the field in the early stages of the race and he is great value at his current quote.

Newcastle – Race 5 4:25PM AEST

No. 10 Much Much Better – Bet Now: $2.05

Much Much Better is deserving of his status as a short-priced favourite for this contest.

He has been racing well without winning this campaign and on exposed form he does have a genuine class edge over the rest of this field.

Tommy Berry in the saddle is a positive and he is another galloper that will make his own luck on the speed.

Newcastle – Race 6 5:05PM AEST

No. 3 Kutayha – Bet Now: $2.70

Kutayha has an excellent chance to break through for a maiden race win at Newcastle this afternoon.

He didn’t have a great deal of luck at Wyong last start, but he was still able to find the line nicely and he should take good benefit from that run.

Barrier three is perfect for him and he will be storming home late.

Newcastle – Race 7 5:45PM AEST

No. 3 Absolute Trust – Bet Now: $5.50

Absolute Trust was outclassed at Canterbury last start and returns to a much more winnable contest at Newcastle this afternoon.

His win before that in the Hihgway Handicap at Royal Randwick was outstanding and a repeat of that sort of performance would make him tough to beat.

This is an open race, but he appeals at $6.
