Home By Midnight is deserving of his status as a dominant favourite for this contest at Ballarat.
He won the Ladbrokes Launceston Cup earlier this year and on exposed form he has a clear class edge over the rest of this field.
This is his first test over the jumps, but Patrick Payne is the master and I am confident that he will have Home By Midnight firing.

No. 1 Gobstopper – Bet Now: $SP.00
Gobstopper is good enough to overcome the big weight and take out the JJ Houlahan Hurdle at Ballarat this afternoon.
The veteran galloper has returned to his best form and he goes into this contest on the back of outstanding efforts in the Brendan Drechsler Hurdle and the Grand National Hurdle.
He is the class horse in this field and will prove very tough to beat.
Ballarat – Race 5 3:45PM AEST
No. 3 Ascot Red – Bet Now: $2.35
Ascot Red has been racing well without winning this campaign and he has an excellent chance to return to winning form this afternoon.
The Casino Prince gelding ran well at Warrnambool last start and there is no horse with the quality of Julika in this field.
Barrier four is ideal and he will have every possible chance in the run.
Ballarat – Race 6 4:25PM AEST
No. 1 Ablaze – Bet Now: $2.00
The market suggests that the Grand National Steeplechase is a race in two between Ablaze and Bee Tee Junior and that does seem to be the case.
Ablaze just can’t stop winning over the jumps and I think that he can overcome the big weight to get the job done.
The heavy track is not a problem for him and there really is no tougher stayer in the country.
