Memsie Stakes Free Tips, Bets and Field Preview – 2020

The Memsie Stakes is always a thrilling contest, but we’ll be treated to a particularly intriguing edition of the Group 1 feature at Caulfield on Saturday.

Horses from Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and New South Wales will step out in the capacity field, including names like Mystic Journey, Behemoth and three-year-old Glenfiddich.

There is a genuine case to be made for many, but I’ve had a crack, and you can find my 2020 Memsie Stakes tips below.

Imagine what you could be buying instead.

Memsie Stakes – Winner

No. 7 Behemoth – Bet Now: $3.90

Behemoth was unlucky not to win The Goodwood as a three-year-old in 2019 and he shapes as a live chance of recording his first Group 1 win in the Memsie Stakes.

The classy South Australian continued to impress during last year’s Spring Carnival and won the Penny Edition Stakes at Morphettville, before running fourth behind Kolding in the Golden Eagle most notably.

He returned to the races this year with a dominant win in the DC McKay Stakes, was freshened after finishing fourth in The Goodwood and was last seen beating a good field comfortably in the Spring Stakes.

He’ll only improve for that effort, Craig Williams jumps into the saddle and everything suggests he’ll be in the finish.

Memsie Stakes – 2nd

No. 11 Mystic Journey – Bet Now: $8.00

Her first-up effort in the PB Lawrence here two weeks ago was only fair, but I’m expecting big improvement from Mystic Journey, and to see her in the finish of the Memsie Stakes.

The Needs Further mare has obviously been an outstanding horse throughout her career and when everything comes together, there are few horses in the country better than her.

Her second-up record currently reads 4:3-1-0 and she is drawn to receive a lovely run on Saturday from barrier 4.

I like that trainer Adam Trinder has elected to stay with Billy Egan, and she could very well prove over the odds.

Memsie Stakes – 3rd

No. 15 Glenfiddich – Bet Now: $9.00

While I do think that he’ll find a couple of these rivals a little too good at this point of his career, Glenfiddich is clearly a horse on the up and I’m finding it almost impossible to look past the 50.5kgs he will carry.

Now in the care of Peter Moody, the son of Fastnet Rock returned many pleasing performances during his two-year-old season and ended his prep a close-up second behind King’s Legacy in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes.

Everything needs to go his way, but he certainly has the ability to fight out the finish if it does.
