The Showdown Free Tips, Bets and Field Preview – 2020

The Showdown has fast become a late autumn target for two-year-olds and another open edition of the lucrative feature race will be run and won at Caulfield on Saturday.

It’s fair to say that the confirmed field, capacity and without a whole lot of form to divulge, is an absolute dartboard and there is a case to be made for most.

The Showdown – Winner

No. 1 Ideas Man – Bet Now: $2.30

Ideas Man has returned some good efforts in tough races since debuting and looks up to fighting out the finish of something of this quality. The Maher & Eustace-trained galloper won the Inglis 2YO race at The Valley in spring and finished fifth behind Mildred here at Caulfield when resuming in the Group 3 Chairman’s. He’s finished down the order in two subsequent starts, but one of those was the Neds Blue Diamond and he looks to be at peak fitness for this race.

The Showdown – 2nd

No. 11 Tarcoola Diva – Bet Now: $7.50

Tarcoola Diva is yet to record a race win, but she’s tamped herself as a filly to follow in only two career starts and I think that she can run a bold race in The Showdown. The Cluster filly needed the run when tenth behind the promising Swats That at Bendigo on debut, but took big improvement into her second career start, a close-up second here at Caulfield last week. Fitter third-up and drawn ideally, I can’t find a reason why she can’t fight out the finish.

The Showdown – 3rd

No. 13 Chrome Angel – Bet Now: $4.00

This is a decent rise in class for Chrome Angel, but that is the case for nearly every horse in The Showdown field and she does look a capable type. She’s made only the one career appearance so far but could hardly have been more impressive when an easy winner of what looked a strong maiden race at Bendigo. She’s sure to improve from that experience and while she’ll need luck from the awkward barrier, Craig Williams climbs into the saddle.

The Showdown – 4th

No. 4 Just A Tribute – Bet Now: $11.00

Just A Tribute is another horse that has had just one start leading into The Showdown, but he’ll be putting an unbeaten record on the line. The John Salanitri-trained gelding was unwanted in the market when sent off a $26 shot at Benalla, but returned a lovely effort to win, beating home Black Caviar’s most-recent progeny in the process. It’s tough to line up all of the form leading into this race and Just A Tribute looks as good a chance as anything.
