RACE 1 NO.9 DELUSIONS
Unless you follow Victorian form closely you’d think I should be locked up for tipping a maiden winner from Swan Hill at Caulfield on cup day but the Darren Weir 3yo filly DELUSIONS looks a pretty smart girl capable of skipping through the grades. At Swan Hill she even surprised the Weir stable in the way she won and started $4.4. She covered ground but the way she attacked the line suggested to me she is well and truly capable of coming to town and getting the job done. Talking on older horses and the opposite sex on debut is a recipe for defeat but Delusions was good enough to overcome that. Before you jump up and down and tell me the second horse at Swan Hill was beaten at her next start at Echuca I know.
RACE 7 NO.7 BEST OF DAYS
The best of the day at Caulfield looks to be the James Cummings trained BEST OF DAYS who I think come next autumn and spring we will be talking about in the major group ones. Since arriving in Australia this 5yo has won once but shown good ability that is only going to keep improving as he fully adapts to Aussie racing. The step to 2000m should be ideal and with the small field he should be able to keep the likely leader and biggest threat Trap For Fools within sight and then round him up in the charge home. For me the day centres around the bright blue colours of Godolphin.
