Race 1

1 – 3 – 7 – 6

The two fancies HIEMAL and Lean Mean Machine trialled against each other nine days ago and opinions are divided as to who went the best. For me I leant slightly to Hiemal and the fact he has done it on race day has me firmly in his corner. From a soft gate he should stalk what looks a solid enough speed and get his chance. Lean Mean Machine has won both his trials and the raps from Rosehill are that he sits near the top of Waller’s two-year-olds. He has natural speed meaning he should be prominent throughout the run. Swelt did enough in his trial over the short course of 735m to show he has above average ability and with the added bonus he did on rain affected ground. Sneak Preview looks a handy youngster and to me looks big odds here considering he trialled well alongside the highly regarded Performer last time out and it was on wet ground. There is a big tip for Munich coming out of Randwick and look maybe Lancaster Bomber could run along and keep going. I think it’s a good race and a good horse will win it.

Race 2

2 – 4 – 3 – 1

DINNIGAN is on top but not keen to dive in at $1.4 but I concede she is clearly the one to beat. She hasn’t raced since disappointing at the Gold Coast in January but did look good in a recent barrier trial at Randwick. Resin looks the biggest and maybe only threat as she turns up here second up after a 500 day injury layoff after running a fair second at Gosford after leading and being run down. She is out of a Lonhro mare so you’d expect she will handle the wet surface.

Race 3

6 – 4 – 7 – 9

SANGITA raced twice last year and turned in two solid efforts and showed she could handle the sting out of the track. She is fresh here and the blinkers have been added to her gear. I liked her trials particularly the latest hit out and expect her to be hard to beat. Madame Rouge showed good speed and travelled nicely in her recent trial suggesting she is back in good order and must be respected here. Timid was good in her latest barrier trial while the Gary Portelli prepared filly Zerchois was also very good in the same trial and debuting on her home track will be a bonus.

Race 4

2 – 5 – 6 – 8

DISSOLUTION will step out for the first time since joining the Brad Widdup stable and he will be lighter as he’s been gelded. His two trials have been solid and with the ability he showed previously it looks a perfect race first up. My Zebrinka has come back a lot sharper this preparation with two good second placings and from a perfect draw here must be respected as a major player. Waller’s trio Stryke Rock, Blazeray and Tunero are chances but would need to have improved. That said Tunero looks a more rounded and professional galloper this time around.

Race 5

3 – 2 – 1 – 4

SEXY EYES should be spot on today following two strong runs back this preparation and from an ideal gate she should be able to just stalk the speed and be hard to hold out. Her stablemate Its Time For Magic will likely lead and if able to dictate without much pressure is capable of proving hard to get past. The blow out is the class runner Forbidden Kisses who drops back in grade following a cracking second to Waimea Bay last time out. He worry is if she is good enough to give a start and run them down in a race that looks as though will only be run at an even tempo.

Race 6

2 – 5 – 8 – 7

Clare Cunningham has turned the fortunes of SIR BARB around with his latest two efforts showing he is on the road back to the winners circle. If he can repeat one of those runs and gets the breaks when needed he will be coming hard in the run to the line. Weather With You is a huge tip as he turns up here second up having raced first up back home in New Zealand. He has raced in Australia previously when he won the Geelong Classic before a fair effort in the Victoria derby. He should forward here especially with the blinkers going back on and I imagine be hard to get past. Augustus looks to have returned a more mature and stronger animal so don’t dismiss lightly.

Race 7

2 – 4 – 10 – 3

Tricky race but I’ve settled on BEAU GESTE who resumes here off the back of two nice barrier trials. This colt has always shown good ability having raced in better grade than this and is one from one on soft ground so he should be amongst the spoils here. Bolero King resumed and turned in a rock solid effort to win in the final bound at Canterbury and from a perfect draw today he looks a major player again. Dortmund is first up having trialled nicely in preparation while Selita and Mana will settle somewhere near the speed and give a big sight.

Race 8

11 – 3 – 12 – 13

ABSOLUTE is low flying and would only need to have maintained his form to be hard to toss in the last. There doesn’t look much speed on paper but with the two quickest drawn outside him he should find a nice stalking position. Tenorino should be cherry ripe following three runs back and with the ability to handle wet ground he must be kept safe. The awkward gate looks his biggest hurdle to overcome. Legendofoz will roll forward and give himself every chance while I think Arigold looks big odds as he comes here third up which is when he fires and from gate one and a soft track are right up his alley.
