Trainer targets Stakes win in Adelaide for Burning Heartz

Gavin Bedggood, the trainer, holds aspirations for Burning Heartz to compete in an Oaks race in the future, but his immediate focus is on securing a Stakes victory with the promising filly.

Having achieved a debut win at Sandown on July 1, Burning Heartz is now en route to Adelaide to compete in the Group 3 South Australian Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400 metres at Morphettville Parks this Saturday.

Bedggood had initially contemplated giving Burning Heartz a spell following her success at Sandown. However, he concluded that adding a Stakes win to her debut victory would significantly enhance her racing record.

The track conditions in Adelaide also played a role in the decision to travel, with the track being in the heavy range on Friday, mirroring the conditions under which the filly triumphed at Sandown.

“I had the option of tipping her out and putting her away for the spring, but’s shown us that she’s very adept on wet ground,” Bedggood stated.

“There was this Stakes race, so it’s a chance to have a two-year-old that’s a city winner with the chance to add some Black Type to her name.”

“It is almost mission accomplished if she could do that.”

“She’s got good ability. Wet ground is zero issue, and she’s drawn a good barrier, so I think she will be very competitive over there.”

Bedggood indicated that Burning Heartz would require a break in the near future, which might preclude her from participating in the VRC Oaks over 2500 metres at Flemington in November.

Nevertheless, Bedggood noted that there would be ample Oaks opportunities in the autumn, potentially on more forgiving tracks.

“We’ll reassess what happens after Saturday’s race, but she will need a break at some point,” Bedggood commented.

“How long that is, I’m not too sure.”

“You would like to think she could be an Oaks filly, but that may be in the autumn when the tracks are a bit softer too.”
