Trix Of The Trade lands the G1 Railway Stakes

Talented four-year-old Trix Of The Trade has handed 84 year-old trainer Colin Webster his first Group 1 when taking out Saturday’s Group 1 Railway Stakes at Ascot.

An emotional win for all involved, Trix Of The Trade continued the great record of four-year-olds in the feature, much to his trainer’s delight.

“Unbelievable. A Group 1. My first Group 1. It is unbelievable. He’s a magnificent horse and Troy rides him just to perfection,” Webster said.

“I am very proud of him. Very proud.”It’s very special. Even old Bill and Pat Robinson came down to see him. They can’t come to the races much because of their age (in their nineties) and they’re here today and watch him win. They’re over the moon.

Webster resisted the temptation to run him again following Trix Of The Trade’s eye catching performance in the Asian Beau, a ploy which proved very fruitful.

“We knew if we had him fresh enough he could do it. We didn’t want to run him last week because he’s got the edge off him slightly, he’s never as good.

“But we aimed at this race a long time ago and we really thought we could win it.”

Ridden a treat by regular rider Troy Turner, he was just over the moon with the performance.

“It is a bit emotional but just trying to win these races for the team has been pretty hard so today we had the right horse and the horse was trained a treat,” Turner said.

“It is good to get the job done.

“Everyone puts in a lot of work and sixteen horses going around today all in good form, but ours was in tip-top form and trained to the minute. Credit to the stable.”
