Via Sistina locked in for Makybe Diva Stakes after late program switch

For the third time in a week, Via Sistina’s spring schedule has changed, with the star mare now confirmed for Saturday’s $750,000 Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington.

The 1600m race had been considered after her Winx Stakes triumph, but owner Yulong initially steered her elsewhere to avoid a clash with stablemate Treasurethe Moment.

Plans shifted again when Treasurethe Moment suffered a mild colic on Monday, ruling her out of Flemington.

Trainer Chris Waller confirmed the decision just before Via Sistina was due to trial at Rosehill.

“Via Sistina will not trial this morning and will instead race in the Makybe Diva Stakes this Saturday at Flemington,” Waller said.

James McDonald takes the ride, while Damian Lane partners Aeliana, who pushed Via Sistina in the Winx Stakes.

Their rivals could include Mr Brightside, Antino, Another Wil and Tom Kitten, with Fangirl instead resuming in Sydney ahead of the King Charles III Stakes.
