Vivy Air has completed a dream week for the Ciaron Maher stable, backing up from her Big Dance second placing to claim the $2 million Five Diamonds (1800m) at Rosehill.
After pocketing $600,000 on Tuesday, the tough mare added another $1.155 million to her tally, taking her earnings past $1.7 million in just five days.
“It’s a great result… backing up from Tuesday into today, it’s not easy to do. She is very tough,” assistant trainer Jo Gerard-Dubord said.
Vivy Air ($5.50) settled near the rear before Reece Jones weaved a path along the fence, the mare bursting through late to defeat Transatlantic ($3.80 fav) by a long head, with Militarize ($4) a close third.
Jones admitted he feared she might not have backed up early in the race. “She wasn’t travelling all that well for me… then it made me look silly,” he said.
Bullet Point ($6) missed the start and never featured, finishing near the tail.
