Chris Waller remains upbeat despite Sydney’s sodden conditions as he prepares to unleash seven runners in Saturday’s Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.
The track was rated a Heavy 8 on Monday, with forecasts tipping up to 100mm of rain leading into the meeting.
“At this time of year, every day is a different day with weather,” Waller said. “They’ve actually been on the right leg … they’ve had their trials and exhibition gallop while other horses are struggling to even have their first trials.”
He confirmed Via Sistina, Fangirl, Lady Shenandoah, Lindermann, Full Count Felicia, Aeliana and River Of Stars are in the mix, with James McDonald booked for Via Sistina, Jason Collett for Aeliana and Kerrin McEvoy for Fangirl.
Waller said his team is fit and ready, adding: “Rain on the day is the worst thing … but we’re going onto a fresh track. It will be fine.”
Other entries include Mr Brightside, Light Infantry Man, Ceolwulf, Gringotts and Another Wil.
