Chris Waller is preparing to roll out a powerful group of Group 1 performers this autumn, but one colt he still rates at the top level will get first crack this weekend.
Former boom colt Wodeton is set to resume in Saturday’s $250,000 Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.
The Wootton Bassett colt has just one win to his name, but that debut success has been followed by runner-up finishes in both the Golden Slipper and Golden Rose.
Waller said the three-year-old had returned in outstanding order.
“He has come back well, really well,” Waller said.
“He will go to the Newmarket as well after this race as he will get well weighted.
“James (McDonald) is riding him next Saturday.”
The $2 million Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) looms as his next target at Flemington on March 7.
Wodeton will face strong opposition in the Eskimo Prince, with Tempted and Napoleonic among the 11 entries.
His return follows two quiet Randwick trials ahead of his first run since the Caulfield Guineas (1600m).
“I won’t hesitate to get him out to 1400m or 1500m.
“He has continued to develop and strengthen.”
