Waller juggling star colts and mares across Sydney and Melbourne

Australian Horse of the Year Via Sistina may meet stablemate Aelina in the Makybe Diva Stakes, but Chris Waller’s focus will also be on Sydney with a strong three-year-old team.

Golden Slipper runner-up Wodeton headlines his squad for the Group 2 The Run To The Rose (1200m), a key lead-up to the Golden Rose.

The colt resumed with a luckless second in the San Domenico Stakes (1100m), and Waller believes he is ready to step up.

“As a two-year-old, (he raced) without much luck, so it was nice to see him come back like that,” Waller said.

Former Godolphin galloper Beiwacht, third in the San Domenico, has drawn barrier four and will also test his Golden Rose credentials.

“He’s a very nice horse. A professional horse. He’s a very good type and he is already a Group Two winner. He’s got a box left to tick and that’s a Group One,” Waller said.

J J Atkins runner-up Hidden Achievement will also resume in The Run To The Rose, though he faces a wide draw in 16.

Meanwhile, unbeaten Autumn Boy lines up in the Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m), where Waller will also saddle Sixties.

Autumn Boy was perfect in his first campaign, and Waller says the colt has bigger spring targets.

“He’s by The Autumn Sun and he got a mile easily, so it’s exciting,” Waller said.

“We’d like to run him in the Golden Rose but Saturday will tell us more and then it would be nice to be running in a Caulfield Guineas.”
