Waterhouse and Bott await clarity on Sir Delius after injury risk ruling

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott will seek further veterinary advice before deciding whether Sir Delius continues his campaign.

The talented entire was ruled out of the Melbourne Spring Carnival after Racing Victoria stewards received scan results showing a heightened risk of injury ahead of the Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 4.

All Melbourne Cup runners must undergo limb scans, which are reviewed by international imaging experts.

Sir Delius had been among the top contenders for both the Cox Plate (2040m) and the Melbourne Cup, leaving the stable disappointed by the news.

“We’re still in that stage of assessing that information and what it means to his campaign this preparation and future ones,” Bott said.

He added the Five Diamonds (1800m) at Rosehill on November 8 could be an option if Sir Delius is cleared to race again.

Racing NSW officials, led by chief steward Tom Moxon, are liaising with Racing Victoria before making any decisions on possible embargoes.

“Until they consider the matter in full, we can’t really put too much thought into what we do,” Moxon said.
