Webster plots Railway Stakes path for Trix Of The Trade

Colin Webster will let the dust settle on Trix Of The Trade’s outstanding return win before deciding which road to take ahead of the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) in November.

Trix Of The Trade overcame top weight and a challenging run to power home from near last and justify Colin Webster’s decision to bypass the Eurythmic Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on Saturday.

Having his first start since the WA Derby (2400m) in April, it was the perfect launching pad for the classy four-year-old and a major confidence boost with the Pinnacles carnival around the corner.

The G3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) on October 29 looms as a possible next encounter for Trix Of The Trade, but Webster said he’s leaving his options open.

“We’re not sure and we’ve got a few options,” Webster said on Tabradio.

“He’s pulled up so far really good, but it will take a few days to assess how he’s done.

“We’ll then work out exactly what race we want to go to.

“We have a few options with a few races coming up that will suit him leading up to the Railway Stakes.”

Webster was over the moon with how Trix Of The Trade overcame several hurdles to stamp his authority on the weekend, including lumping top weight.

“It was great to seem him back in winning form again,” Webster said.

“He was originally entered for the Euthymic, but he was so badly weighted.

“He’s an 86 rater and had the same weight as horses that were rated over a 100.

“It would have been the preferred race.

“The 61kg was a concern, but he is a great, big strong horse and can carry weight.

“There was no two ways about it, it was a great win.

“It was a great effort.”

Trix Of The Trade gave a glimpse of his talent last season when he won a hat trick and ran two seconds in Listed races.

A tough three-year-old campaign ended on a low note when he finished unplaced and was well beaten by Alaskan God in the WA Derby.

“We tried him at the Derby distance and he failed, but I think he was past his best by then,” Webster said.

“He had a couple of hard runs before that so I think he was due for the paddock.”

Meanwhile Webster confirmed plans for his exciting three-year-old, Baby Paris.

The daughter of Playing God has three wins from four starts and is unbeaten in two runs this time in.

Her only career defeat was a second to Amelia’s Jewel in last season’s Karrakatta Plate (1200m).

“She won’t go to the Belgravia,” Webster said.

“She’ll go straight to a prelude and two weeks after that the Placid Ark (1200m).”

The Belgravia Stakes (1200m) is Ascot’s feature event on Saturday.

The Placid Ark Stakes is run on November 12.
