Widden Stud enjoys big sales with Zoustar progeny at Inglis Easter Yearling Sale

Widden Stud had a stellar start to the second day of the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, celebrating a big payday with two standout progeny of their star stallion Zoustar, both siblings to Group 1 winners.

A brother to Schwarz sold for $1.4 million early in Monday’s session, shortly before a three-quarter-sister to Zougotcha fetched $2.6 million, becoming the highest-priced filly of the sale.

The filly is by Zougotcha’s sire and out of The Actuary, a half-sister to the three-time Group 1 winner. Widden Principal Antony Thompson was confident in her appeal.

“She has been a star from Day 1… she’s had 260 parades, the vets have been all over her from all parts of the world,” Thompson said.

The filly was bought by Resolute Racing, the operation of American John Stewart, who also bid for the $10m filly out of Winx at last year’s sale.

James Harron and TFI purchased the $1.4m colt, who received a pedigree boost when Schwarz won the Group 1 William Reid Stakes shortly before the sale.

“We’re really proud of the result,” Thompson said.

New Zealand’s Little Avondale Stud also enjoyed success, selling a Zoustar colt for $1.7 million.
