Wonder mare Winx has claimed a world record 17th Group One win in taking out the George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill.

In winning the weight-for-age race for the third time, Winx defeated Happy Clapper and Kementari to surpass American legend John Henry as the world’s most successful Group One horse.

“What a special, special horse she is. I’m so grateful to be her jockey,” Hugh Bowman said.

The pace was only moderate and Bowman took no chances plotting a course three wide around the field and when she needed another gear she found it to hold a brave happy Clapper and Kementari at bay who will meet aagin in a fortnight in the $3 million Doncaster.

We won’t see the champion Winx for three weeks when she lines up in the $3 million Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2000m.
