Zahra trades Ibiza for Royal Ascot debut aboard Docklands

Mark Zahra will briefly postpone his annual Ibiza getaway to take part in one of racing’s premier stages — Royal Ascot.

After riding at Eagle Farm on Saturday, the Group 1-winning jockey jetted off to England for a single engagement before his European holiday officially begins.

Zahra is booked to partner Docklands in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes (1600m) on Tuesday.

He previously rode the OTI-owned galloper in the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile (1600m) last December.

“This is a very good race,” Zahra said.

“I think he is going as good as he ever has.”

The five-year-old has placed in both starts this prep, including a third in the Group 3 Diomed Stakes at Epsom.

“He’s had five runs at Ascot and never finished worse than third,” Zahra added.

While he’s competed in Ascot’s Shergar Cup before, this marks Zahra’s Royal Ascot debut.

“I’ve never ridden a straight mile… it’ll be different, but it is a big beautiful track.”

Docklands is currently a $15 chance with online betting sites. Favouritism belongs to St James’s Palace Stakes winner Rosallion at $3.
