Trainer Shane Jackson has turned to Irish star Sean Flanagan to boost his hopes of winning Sunday’s Grand National Hurdle at Sandown.

Jackson will saddle up Highland Blaze and Loft in the 4200m feature, confident both are strong contenders.

With Tommy Ryan opting to ride The Cunning Fox, Jackson called on longtime friend Flanagan, a leading cross-country jockey in Ireland, who will jet in after riding at the Galway Festival.

“He’s a top-class jockey… rode a couple of Cheltenham Festival winners this year,” Jackson said.

Loft impressed early over hurdles but struggled on heavy tracks. Jackson believes Sunday’s expected soft ground will suit.

“If it’s a Soft 6 or 7… I think it will be better for him,” he said.

Highland Blaze, a last-start winner at Hamilton over 3400m, will relish the rise in trip.

“The further he goes, the better he’ll be,” Jackson added.

“It’s a high-quality field… but I wouldn’t swap my two fellas.”
